I explore dialogue through organic forms in porcelain, questions of identity, purpose and value.

Fascinated and inspired by the subtle texture, strength, delicacy, and translucence of the white porcelain clay. The innate property of the movement, when the porcelain clay fired-extends the dialogue outside of my control and reflects the true nature of the unpredictability of life. My work becomes a symbolic analogical conversation of experiences personal and observed.

Creating Sculptural porcelain vessels to speak into life.

I have found beauty in transformation and restoration expressed through every organic sculptural vessel I create. My vessels encapsulate, hold and invite you to reflect on your own life’s experiences. The experiences that have shaped us - creating the dialogue of our lives. Forming our character and revealing our hearts as we respond to inexpressible joy and fulfillment interwoven with loss, pain, disappointment.

The vessels become an analogical conversation as I create a symbolic vocabulary and synthesizes my creative process, porcelain clay, and gold leaf into dialogue.

A dialogue begins alone, quiet, reflecting, holding, shaping, throwing, tearing the clay, analyzing shape as it becomes form, the myself, and subtle clay. Through juxtaposing the tension of the fragility and resilience, pushing it to the limits, displaying movement, and incorporating time and the history of experiences, a vessel emerges expressed in porcelain clay.  The dialogue continues through movement in the firing process, but outside of my control- this to me is life, the excitement in the unexpected, the reminder of not being in charge. Each unique piece a dialogue between the clay and the artist, and each piece the story of being seen.

Celebrating the beauty of transformation and restoration expressed in sculptural porcelain becomes the language of contemplation.

Creative Process

Creating an analogical vocabulary, synthesizing process and materials into symbolic dialogue- this enlivens me and provides an endless avenue for exploration.  The unglazed translucent porcelain surface evokes a skin-like quality which draws me into self-reflections. The classical forms speak of our common humanity, yet the manipulation to our individual experience. fragmented gold leaf reminds me that I am not yet finished I am a work in process. The classical forms speak of our common humanity, yet the manipulation to our individual experience. borrows from historical references to deepen and unify the cultural conversation with a contemporary application. The ancient Kintsugi process reminds me of the value of intrinsic worth. Expressing broken places as part of the beauty and movement emphasized in the surface and structure of the form. Hand hammered brass wire embedded as staples extend the vocabulary to document silent testimonies of healing and restoration, joy.

Layers in the creative process of experimentation and discovery

The exploration of wood-fired soda process in the surface of the work and contribution to visual vocabulary expands interest in form and surface. The surface textured enhanced by the ash, smoke and soda provides an unexpected, uncontrolled, patina enriching emphasizing exposure and movement, exposing a subtle and understated beauty.

Our humanity wants to hide our misshaped, awkward pieces- afraid of not being loved if fully known, but we are fully seen, fully known, fully loved. A story of process, of learning to see.
